Amata Celebrates Farmworker Appreciation Day

August 4, 2022

Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata released the following statement celebrating the farmworkers of American Samoa for National Farmworker Appreciation Day (August 6):

“Today, I celebrate the many farmworkers of American Samoa and across the United States on Farmworker Appreciation Day. In a world where we are so used to buying produce and groceries from the store, the people who worked hard to make that food are often overlooked. The farmworkers of American Samoa work hard every single day to ensure that the foods that sustained our ancestors and cultures for centuries continue to do the same for us. Their products help feed our elderly, including with programs at TAOA. Our children also benefit from these products with the free school lunch program, funded by the federal government. In short, our farmworkers do some of the hardest jobs so that we can feed our families. I am immensely proud of our agricultural sector and will continue to do everything I can in Washington to support its sustained development. I am already looking forward to returning home very soon and having our delicious homegrown favorites like taro, papayas, breadfruit, and more!”
