Amata Commemorates Flag Day 2021

April 15, 2021

Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Uifa'atali Amata is commemorating Flag Day 2021:

"Happy Flag Day to everyone in American Samoa! This holiday means so much to our people. On this day (April 17), our ancestors first raised the American flag in our islands. We celebrate being part of the United States, and our special relationship with the United States. An evidence of that relationship is our many military families, and so many of our own serving around the world and not able to be home this Flag Day. We think of all of them. We're so glad that several hundred of our people are back home because of repatriation flights. We are blessed that after all this time we still don't have Covid cases in our islands. I know our celebrations this year won't look quite the same as past years, but we have many reasons to be thankful.

"April is a busy month, and Congress is in session in Washington, D.C. This is the first time since I've been in Congress that I can't be home for Flag Day, but I'm thinking of you, and with you in spirit! Hopefully, I can be home soon, God willing. May the Lord bless everyone this Flag Day, and enjoy the holiday."
