Amata Highlights the Confirmation of VA Secretary Doug Collins

February 4, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is highlighting the Senate confirmation of former Congressman Doug Collins, her friend and former colleague, as Secretary of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (VA).

“This is an important post for all of our Veterans, and it is helpful to get senior leadership in place without delay to get things done,” said Congresswoman Amata, Vice Chairman of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee. “I have high regard for Secretary Collins, as a friend and former colleague, but also a Veteran and a man of faith who will have a heart for those he serves. Congress will continue to work on needed reforms, and I believe Secretary Collins can implement these changes and make a difference at the VA.”

Secretary Collins is from Georgia, and in 2008, he was deployed to Iraq. He initially served in the U.S. Navy as a Navy Chaplain. Following the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, he rejoined the military and since then has served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve Command, where he is a Colonel, serving as Chaplain.

Before he was elected to Congress in 2012 and served eight years at the U.S. Capitol, he was also a former pastor of a church, as well as a former state representative and state senator. He has an extensive education with both a law degree and a Master of Divinity degree.
