“The U.S. Coast Guard plays a vital role in keeping the oceans safe, including right here in American Samoa,” said Aumua Amata. “Anywhere on the Pacific, the iconic white hulls of their cutters are always a beautiful sight, ensuring that fishing, cargo, and tourism ships and vessels of all types can operate within the law in freedom and security. The 14th District has responsibility over a vast area of coasts and waters, and they are especially welcome here in American Samoa. I appreciate all they do, the leadership of Admiral Day, their informative and interesting briefings, and their hospitality with a delicious meal on board.”

Discussions centered on the USCG role in general, and particularly in the South Pacific, the role American Samoa has in that and possibilities for the future, and keeping respective offices in close communication, along with the features and duties of the Juniper, a 225-foot seagoing buoy tender.

“I’m delighted that Admiral Day has been here to see our excellent natural Harbor in person, and I know our Territory will work well with the Coast Guard for many years to come,” Amata concluded. “A strong Coast Guard presence in the South Pacific is an important representation of U.S. commitment in the region.”
