“It is an honor and pleasure for me to be here with you all for this evening of beautiful music from these angelic voices,” said Amata. “As a fellow Pacific Islander, it brings me such pride to see these young people performing at such a high level and I know that their parents must all be very proud,” continued Amata.
Founded in 2008, Vox Nativa is a nonprofit special weekend music school with two main objectives. To achieve social reform within the poverty stricken aboriginal populations and communities through cultivation of gifted aboriginal children, and to preserve and promote aboriginal culture, pride, and identity through the children’s choir group. Children of Vox Nativa range from 9 years old to 13 years old and have one thing in common – they are aboriginal children who earn top of the class grades despite coming from low income families.
The Congresswoman spoke on the similarities between the aboriginal communities of the Jade Mountain Range in Taiwan and the people of American Samoa, due to the geographic isolation they each share, and about the love for work and passion to succeed shared by each.
“I want to thank the President of the International Leadership Foundation, Ms. Chiling Tong for inviting me to be a part of the evening’s festivities, and also want to welcome you to stop by my office in Washington, or Pago Pago should you ever need anything, or simply want to say hello,” concluded the Congresswoman.
