Washington, D.C. –Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is welcoming House passage of a major appropriations bill for several departments of the U.S. government, which boosts funding for American Samoa’s DOI Operations. The bill, which passed 397-28, adds $900,000 for a new total of $29 million – that despite the overall trimming of the Office of Insular Affairs spending for the year. An upcoming Senate vote is expected, and House/Senate leaders have already negotiated the legislative package.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata released the following statement and informational update on the partial government shutdown:

“First of all, I absolutely opposed this needless government shutdown. The best scenario for American Samoa is steady, secure federal funding that preserves our services. That said, I am always optimistic, and I remain optimistic that this interruption will not last long. Negotiators will continue to work, and I will monitor closely and keep our people informed.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is welcoming House passage of a government funding extension bill that would keep the federal government open during ongoing work on the appropriations bills for fiscal year 2026. The short-term Continuing Resolution (C.R.), led by House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole of Oklahoma, would allow time for ongoing negotiations by funding extending government funding through Nov. 21st of this year.

The award was notified by Assistant Secretary Carmen Cantor in a letter to Governor Lemanu P.S. Mauga and Congresswoman Aumua Amata.

Bill Includes $3 Million for ASCC, Provides Grant Funding Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is highlighting bipartisan passage of an appropriations package of legislation, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024, that funds several major departments of the U.S. government for the year, including the Interior Department (DOI) which encompasses the Office of Insular Affairs (OIA).
