Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is congratulating American Samoa’s national competitor in the Poetry Out Loud student program, held in the nation’s capital this week. Mr. Johnson Ailima, a senior at Fa'asao Marist High School, American Samoa’s Poetry Out Loud champion, represented the territory in Washington, D.C., and had a full slate of related activities in the Capitol.



Congresswoman Amata visited Yale University a few days ago, warmly hosted by American Samoa’s college students there and the Chen family at Yale’s historic campus, during their Pasifika Festival celebrating the people and culture of the Pacific Islands. “Fa’afetai especially to my friend Angela Chen of American Samoa for inviting me. She is soon to graduate from Yale, and making us proud, along with her brother Victor, an Air Force officer and an Air Force Academy graduate, and their sister Amelie, who was on hand for the Festival from Harvard where she currently studies.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is emphasizing Congress’s intent that $3 million go to American Samoa Community College (ASCC) out of the yearly ASG Operations Fund from the Office of Insular Affairs (OIA), which receives $29 million for American Samoa from Congress through Interior Appropriations.
