Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is expecting American Samoa’s funding to be secured, despite the current partial government shutdown. American Samoa has one House-passed funding addition that Congresswoman Amata requested now awaiting the vote that will end the shutdown, while another recent announcement is completed and was signed into law a week ago.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata, who serves on the Caucus’s Executive Committee as a Vice Chairman, is welcoming the new Congressional Western Caucus Chairwoman, Congresswoman Celeste Maloy (Utah-02), who was already in a senior leadership position, and Executive Vice Chairman Congressman Nick Begich (Alaska), who is taking over Chairwoman Maloy’s former role as Executive Vice Chairman, in leading the Caucus for the remainder of the 119th Congress.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is welcoming House passage of major appropriations bills including transportation infrastructure funds she requested, working in communication with American Samoa Government, to include $1 million for the Port of Pago Pago reconstruction project.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is delighted to announce the nominations of six excellent students from American Samoa for consideration by the prestigious military service academies this year, following the applications of 16 interested students to Congresswoman Aumua Amata. Some students applied to more than one academy, so there are nine nominations in all.
Congressional nominations are only possible if the student’s completed application is on file at the Service Academy.
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is reminding U.S. nationals from American Samoa that under current U.S. and state laws they absolutely cannot vote in elections outside of American Samoa unless they personally become U.S. citizens before voting.

Washington, D.C. –Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is welcoming House passage of a major appropriations bill for several departments of the U.S. government, which boosts funding for American Samoa’s DOI Operations. The bill, which passed 397-28, adds $900,000 for a new total of $29 million – that despite the overall trimming of the Office of Insular Affairs spending for the year. An upcoming Senate vote is expected, and House/Senate leaders have already negotiated the legislative package.
