Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa'atali Amata welcomed passage Wednesday by the full House Energy and Commerce Committee of legislation to establish key Medicaid funding for American Samoa for eight years. The bill next moves on for consideration by the entire House of Representatives. Congresswoman Amata is an original cosponsor of this bill, introduced just this month, to preserve the nation's best non-emergency federal matching rate (FMAP) at 83 percent for American Samoa.
Appropriations Committee Community Project Funding Requests
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa'atali Amata spoke in the House Natural Resources Committee on Thursday in support of resources, such as funding sea walls and other shoreline stability needs dealing with erosion, sea rise, climate and Tutuila's known settling.
Pago Pago – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed a grant of $170,963 for American Samoa Community College (ASCC) from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and its National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA).
"Congratulations to ASCC for this federal funding, and the good work they've done on this project," said Aumua Amata. "These funds will benefit the college's food and agriculture science studies. Thank you to Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue and NIFA Acting Director Dr. Parag Chitnis."
Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed notification of $121,883 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Region 9, for the American Samoa Power Authority (ASPA).
This EPA project is under the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act of 2010, followed by current appropriations passed by this Congress for fiscal year 2020.

Washington, D.C. – Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata is welcoming a grant for the American Samoa Power Authority (ASPA) of over $1.2 million through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
This award provides $1,200,749.98 in federal funding for the replacement project resulting from the destruction of the Satala Operations Building from 2009 tsunami damages (FEMA-DR-1859-AS Earthquake, Tsunami, and Flooding https://www.fema.gov/disaster/1859.)
