Washington, D.C. – Monday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata is welcoming another vital CARES Act coronavirus relief grant, this time $1,617,855 through the U.S. Department of Education to aid the American Samoa Community College, with $808,943 (half of the total) specified as assistance for the students.

Washington, D.C.—Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata testified before the leaders of the Interior Appropriations Subcommittee, and made the case for American Samoa's operations funding, especially highlighting the needs at LBJ Tropical Medical Center.

Sunday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata highlighted the announcement of $600,000 in federal funds to secure and provide for American Samoa's federal elections.

"These are important funds to provide for our islands' participation in voting and choosing our leaders, as well as securing elections we can trust," said Aumua Amata. "We are privileged to live in a constitutional republic, and these are some of the rights we celebrate every Flag Day."

Washington, D.C. — Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata is welcoming federal funds for American Samoa through the following U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grants; the Community Development Block Grant, the Emergency Solutions Grant, and the HOME program.

"These are helpful funds that can make an important difference for some needs in American Samoa," said Aumua Amata. "I want to say a special thank you to Secretary Dr. Ben Carson and HUD for these funds for American Samoa. These grants go directly to local community purposes."

It provides about $2.6 million more than the federal budget plan proposed for American Samoa Government, instead boosting the operations budget by another $400,000 this year, following increases of $718,000 and $250,000 the past two years, all supported with Amata's requests.

This $23 million grant is part of the federal government's long term disaster recovery process following 2018's severe Storm Gita, and is through the special appropriations passed by Congress in 2019 in response to major disasters.

The bill passed with unanimous support in the Senate and will now be conferenced with the House bill. It will provide about $2.6 million more than the federal budget proposal for American Samoa Government, boosting the operations budget by another $400,000. This follows similar increases Amata secured of $718,000 and $250,000 the past two years.
