“I’m encouraged by the efforts of the U.S./Japan/Philippines Summit, because U.S. commitment to the Pacific region is of utmost importance. The Pacific Islands take note of U.S. and allied involvement for the stability of the region. Japan is a longtime economic strong point in the Indo-Pacific and a key ally in a defensive role.

Amata Meets with Federated States of Micronesia President Simina to Discuss Pacific Veterans’ Issues

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata met with Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) President Wesley Simina on Wednesday as a follow up to the recent passage of the Compact of Free Association Agreements with the FSM, Palau, and the Marshall Islands (RMI) to discuss implementation, especially related to improving Veterans’ healthcare treatment for all Pacific Islanders including American Samoa, Guam, the CNMI, and all three Freely Associated States.

The Compacts are the foundation for U.S. relations with the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of Palau for the next generation.

Washington, D.C. – Early Saturday morning, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Mike Johnson informed Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata that House leaders had reached a bipartisan agreement on a package of spending bills that includes renewal and funding for the Compacts of Free Association (COFA). Members of the full House will be asked to approve the bills this coming week.
