Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is hailing the pay raise for the military in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2025, passed Wednesday by the House with a vote of 231-196. The House voted to raise pay for U.S. Service Members by 3.8 percent next year, building on this year’s pay raise.

On August 4th, 1790, President George Washington signed a bill passed by Congress that authorized ten revenue cutters, initially under Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton to enforce tariff laws and prevent smuggling, and their mission has grown over the years, now protecting many thousands of miles of coastal waters.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata welcomes bipartisan passage in the U.S. House of Representatives last week of major legislation to strengthen, support, and authorize funding through the end of fiscal year 2029 for the United States Coast Guard and all its critical missions that safeguard the nation’s borders, facilitate maritime commerce, ensure maritime safety, prevent illegal drug trafficking, and reduce illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing on the high seas.

Pago Pago — On June 28, the American Samoan community were welcomed onto the French Navy vessel Teriieroo a Teriierooiterai during its first time in the territory for a reception and tour, hosted by Captain Philippe Dumee. Attendees included the Honorable Governor Pulaali’i Nikolao Pula and First Lady, Miss American Samoa, US Coast Guard officers and Congresswoman Amata’s District Office staff.

Pago Pago — The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Harriet Lane, under the command of Commander Nicole Tesoniero, held a reception Thursday and hosted American Samoan government departments to come aboard as well as Congresswoman Amata’s District Office staff, Tauese Ocean Center personnel, and various community members to showcase further partnership with the USCG and American Samoa.
