Washington, D.C. – Monday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata is welcoming the announcement of over $1 million in federal funds for American Samoa's law enforcement.

Specifically, the grant of $1,033,440 is directed through the American Samoa Criminal Justice Planning Agency. The funds are from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) led by Attorney General William Barr, as part of the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) COPS hiring program (CHP) fiscal year 2020.

Washington, D.C. – Monday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed a grant of $661,550 in federal funds for the American Samoa Department of Homeland Security designated to tsunami preparations.

These federal funds through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), an agency within the U.S. Commerce Department, are for the purpose of reducing the impact of tsunamis through hazard assessment, warning guidance, education and preparedness.

Washington, D.C. – Monday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed the expected nomination of her colleague Congressman John Ratcliffe to serve as the next Director of National Intelligence, and released the following statement:

"Congratulations to my friend, Congressman Ratcliffe. President Trump has announced he plans to nominate him as the next Director of National Intelligence. Congressman Ratcliffe and I are classmates in Congress, having served since the same year.

Washington, DC – Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata is welcoming a combined $2 million in federal funds available to American Samoa for security purposes in three different preparedness grants through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Washington, D.C. – Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata enjoyed welcoming American Samoa Homeland Security Grants Administrator Lisa Tuato'o during her visit to Washington, and met with her in American Samoa's congressional office to discuss the year ahead funding and legislative priorities of the American Samoa Department of Homeland Security, led by Director Samana Semo Ve'ave'a.

Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed Senate passage of the Real ID Act Modification for Freely Associated States Act (H.R. 3398), which she cosponsored and strongly supported with a Statement in the Congressional Record.

Washington, D.C. – Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata is welcoming $335,000 in federal support for the American Samoa Department of Homeland Security.

These funds are derived from the Congressional mandate to create a nationwide public safety broadband network for police, firefighters, emergency medical response and other public safety professionals. The funds are distributed by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce, led by Secretary Wilbur Ross.
