Amata Announces $300 K Grant Award for Airport

Washington, D.C. – Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has awarded a non-discretionary grant in the amount of $300,000 to the American Samoa Government for the Pago Pago International: Update Airport Master Plan Study.

“It is essential that our beautiful, yet geographically isolated islands have a transportation infrastructure capable of sustaining a growing and diversifying economy,” said Amata. “These funds will assist in the plans for updating Pago Pago International Airport,” continued Amata.

Specifically, the grant, which was distributed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will fund phase I of II to update to the existing airport master plan study to show current and future needs of the airport.

“I want to thank those FAA officials for their insight in granting these funds, which are greatly needed, as well as Dr. Claire Poumele, Director of the Department of Ports Administration in American Samoa and her team for helping to obtain this important funding for our home,” concluded Amata.
