“A solid and reliable infrastructure is essential to maintaining economic growth and opportunities in American Samoa, and I am pleased that the USDOT has seen the need for these repairs and updates to our local airport,” said Amata. “I look forward to continuing to work with our federal partners to ensure that American Samoa and its infrastructure is being looked after and kept up to date, for both safety and economic opportunity,” continued the Congresswoman.

Specifically, the grant funds will be used to rehabilitate the apron and runway, and other repairs at Pago Pago Intl Airport.

“I want to thank those DOT officials in Washington who recognized the need for these funds, as well the Director of the Port Administration, Taimalelagi Dr. Claire Poumele and her staff in American Samoa who worked so hard to make sure that our beautiful islands received this important funding,” concluded Amata.
