Amata Commemorates D-Day and Battle of Midway Anniversaries
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is commemorating this month’s World War II anniversaries for two of the great turning points of the global war – D-Day in Europe, and the Battle of Midway in the Pacific.

On June 6, the world marks the 79th anniversary of D-Day, in which Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy. Also, June 4-7 marks the 81st anniversary of the Battle of Midway, known as a major turning point for the war in the Pacific.
“These anniversaries remind us of the great sacrifice and dedication of those who served during World War II,” said Congresswoman Amata. “We celebrate these heroes and their legacy that kept many nations free and made the world a better place.”

“The D-Day invasion in Normandy was an immense logistical undertaking that began pushing back the Nazi forces occupying Western Europe to eventually liberate Europe,” she continued. “In the Pacific, historians point to the Battle of Midway as a difference-making three days of intense sea and air battle that reshaped the naval war.”
“In keeping with these historic events, we honor their valor, and the cause of freedom they share with all our Veterans and current Service Members, including our own from American Samoa,” she concluded.
