Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata commemorated National Medal of Honor Day and released the following statement:

"The National Medal of Honor is reserved for heroic service to the country. Each one is a remarkable story. Each one also started out just like all of our Veterans and Service men and women do — by being willing to serve, to leave home, to follow orders, and give years of their lives to our country. So thank you again to each one of our own serving in uniform, and our many Veterans.

“The first Medals of Honor were presented in 1963. President George H. W. Bush commemorated the first National Medal of Honor Day in 1991, now a yearly tradition to remember and specifically honor these acts of valor.”
