Amata Congratulates Israel Upon 75th Independence Day

April 20, 2023

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is congratulating the nation of Israel upon 75 years of independence, which Israel celebrates this spring, and lauding Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy’s upcoming speech to the Knesset. Israel’s celebration this year of Yom Ha'atzmaut, Day of Independence, begins the evening of April 25, as the date of the celebrations varies in April and May from year to year. The historic Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel was proclaimed on May 14, 1948, by David Ben-Gurion, who became the first Prime Minister.

“Congratulations to the nation of Israel as they celebrate a national milestone and their historic 75 years of independence,” said Congresswoman Aumua Amata. “Congratulations especially to the Israeli people, which includes people of Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and other beliefs, and to millions of friends of Israel in the United States and worldwide, and to the Jewish community throughout the world that has preserved their special heritage for thousands of years.”

“I’ve had the humbling opportunity to visit many of the memorable sites in the Holy Land that are beautiful treasures to my personal Christian faith and Catholic tradition, and it was a wonderful experience,” she continued. “I’ve also in recent years been part of a congressional delegation there, which included security and foreign policy briefings, and meetings with diplomats and officials, including Prime Minister Netanyahu. Israel is a dependable friend to the United States, and doubly important as a democratically elected government in the region.

“I appreciate Speaker McCarthy’s historic appearance before the Knesset, as the second Speaker to address Israel’s legislative body, and the first in several decades,” she concluded. “In international relations, we hope to see continued building on the Abraham Accords of several years ago, which included some of the most important diplomatic agreements in the region in a quarter century, and we always ‘pray for the peace of Jerusalem.’” (Psalm 122:6)
