“Congratulations to President Heine upon her election to lead the Marshall Islands for the next term in these important times throughout the Pacific region,” said Congresswoman Amata. “Congratulations also to the people of the Marshall Islands, who exercised their democratic responsibilities, and had their choice of two accomplished leaders, both thoroughly experienced in public service. I know both of these leaders, and had full confidence that either will continue to work well with the United States, as they have before, and uphold the shared priorities of our alliance. I look forward to working once again with President Heine for the next four years.”

As part of a congressional delegation (CODEL), Amata visited RMI a few months ago to discuss these shared priorities, and as Chairman of the Indo-Pacific Task Force of the Natural Resources Committee, she worked in Congress for the necessary passage of a renewal of the Compact of Free Association (COFA) agreement, already negotiated diplomatically over many months, to ensure formal preservation of this key alliance for the next 20 years. As Co-Chairman of the Pacific Islands Caucus, she and caucus colleagues focus on congressional issues related to the Pacific Islands, including American Samoa and RMI.
