Amata Discusses Local Issues in Asili Village at Townhall Meeting
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata held a townhall meeting in Asili Village recently to listen to local issues, gather information to take back to Washington, and give a legislative update.

Some of the traditional leaders of Asili Village: Operation Desert Storm Army veteran High Chief Samatua; Tauto'oto'o Vae; Rev. L. Saoimanulua Thompson and his lovely wife Faletua Jeanette; Tau To'oto'o Noa.
“Our congressional town hall in Asili began with an Ava ceremony that I didn’t expect, and I was humbled by this traditional gesture, before we talked about the local issues,” said Congresswoman Amata. “Our discussion put the focus on the need for infrastructure including better roads, sea wall, and a bridge.”
The Congresswoman highlighted legislation, such as the recent Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which provides increased federal funding for infrastructure efforts in cooperation with the Territory.
“Asili made me feel so welcome, and it was a real pleasure being in the village,” concluded Aumua Amata. “I especially appreciate the attendance, and the helpful clarity on these priorities. I will continue to have townhalls when I’m not in Washington.”
