Amata Highlights Government Funding, Farm Bill Extension

December 23, 2024

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata welcomes the bipartisan passage of government funding through mid-March, including disaster relief for hurricane flooded areas of the U.S., and an extension of Farm Bill policies with added agricultural support. The 119th Congress beginning in January will take up the needed appropriations bills for the rest of the year.

On Friday, the House reached the necessary agreement on specifics and passed the Continuing Resolution (C.R.), which prevented a partial government shutdown, and the Senate also voted, sending the important legislation to President Biden to be signed into law.

“I am pleased there will be no interruption in federal funding, as that’s good news for American Samoa along with the entire country,” said Congresswoman Amata. “I welcome the Farm Bill extension as well since we rely on that for authorization of the federal support for our nutrition program and various USDA grants.”

“We will be sworn in on January 3rd and need to roll up our sleeves as Congress needs to get a lot done in a short time, starting that next week of January,” she concluded. “In addition to appropriations, there will be a new administration’s agenda along with some new leaders in Congress, and hopefully a fast start on unfinished items from this Congress that were already vetted by Committees.”
