Amata Highlights Lung Cancer Awareness Month 2022

November 15, 2022

Washington, D.C. –Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is releasing the following statement highlighting November as Lung Cancer Awareness Month:

“I am highlighting today as a truly important month for Lung Cancer Awareness. I am sure that most of us know someone who has been affected by this terrible disease, and we should keep them in our prayers. This disease has robbed millions of people around the world of time with their loved ones and the vitality of life.

“Lung Cancer claims more lives per year than cancers of the colon, prostate, ovarian, and breast combined. As such, we must take this time to spread more awareness of the disease and its symptoms. Like any other cancer, early detection is key. Symptoms such as persistent and bloody coughs, chest pain, unexplained weight loss, and bone pain are reasons for a medical appointment right away.

“I understand that a key enabler of early detection is proper medical facilities that provide quality care. I am ever committed to increasing health resources to our territory, including working towards the funding of a new hospital. Along with the American Samoa Government and local organizations like the American Samoa Community Cancer Coalition, we can make a difference to boost awareness of lung and other cancers.”
