Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata on Monday met with StarKist CEO Andrew Choe and the senior executive team at their new national headquarters in Reston, Virginia. StarKist moved their United States headquarters to Virginia from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in March of this year.

“Having the senior team near Washington will allow us to work even closer on the important policy issues affecting StarKist and American Samoa, which is one of the great partnerships in history between a company and a community,” said Aumua Amata. “Through the decades, StarKist has been part of our community in American Samoa providing the key economic driver for our islands.”

Congresswoman Amata continued, “On Monday, we discussed a wide range of issues, specifically the need for more labor, and the extension of the American Samoa Economic Development Credit, also known as section 30A, along with inflation and other geopolitical issues that affect the tuna industry, including the regional proposals the United States made in Vice President Harris’s recent speech at the Pacific Islands Forum in Fiji.”

“I appreciate Andrew Choe and the entire team at StarKist for their leadership, as they direct a major business that has a role that strengthens our military, veterans, schoolchildren, and small businesses in our community, and we can look forward to our even closer working relationship now that StarKist is headquartered so near the nation’s capital,” she concluded.
