Amata Participates in 35th Anniversary of PBDC Meeting

February 19, 2015

Washington D.C. -- Congresswoman Aumua Amata today, participated in the Pacific Basin Development Council's annual meeting. The mission of the council is to foster the socioeconomic development in the regions of American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands, and Guam.

"As governor of American Samoa, my father was a founding member of the pacific basin development council and the first islander to serve as president. During my father's governorship, he chaired the council at least three different times and I fondly remember attending the council's winter meetings with him on several occasions. I recall that President George HW Bush invited Governor Coleman to be part of the U.S. delegation at the first ever summit of pacific leaders in 1990. That was the tenth anniversary of pacific basin development council. It's hard to believe another 25 years has passed since that historical occasion," stated Amata.

The council continues its' work to bring economic prosperity and opportunity to those islands it represents.
