Amata’s Statement Honoring the Life of Henry Kissinger
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is honoring the life of Henry Kissinger, former Secretary of State.
“Henry Kissinger was one of the most famous and influential diplomats of the past century, a key adviser to U.S. Presidents, a longtime policy expert in Washington, D.C., and the first Jewish Secretary of State in 1973. I had the honor to meet him and speak with him on more than one occasion over the years. He was an immigrant to the U.S. from Bavaria at the age of 15 in 1938, narrowly avoiding the holocaust, then served in the U.S. Army in World War II, seeing combat including the Battle of the Bulge, and being awarded the Bronze Star. He lived to 100 years of age as an American success story, rising to high levels of government and public influence, and being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. His accomplishments, decisions, and books will continue to be studied in universities for many years ahead. May he rest in peace.”
