“I feel so fortunate to be here to take part in celebrating our unique and rich heritage with you all,” said Amata. It is that shared culture that binds us together in these communities that are so far from our dear home islands, and as the Member of Congress who represents American Samoa, I can tell you that it gives me great happiness to see all of you here today taking part in your community and passing along our proud heritage on to our young people. It is essential that they too know about where they come from, and the culture that has guided our people for more than a millennia,” continued Amata.

The Flag Day celebration in Carson, CA, was a festive event and all in attendance had a fantastic time. The celebration included performances by Samoan dance groups, traditional music by local Samoan musicians, and of course a bounty of Samoan dishes, and a performance by world renowned artist Fa'anana Jerome Grey. The Congresswoman took a moment to address the crowd and thank them for their hospitality and for carrying on our traditions and customs.

“I want to thank High Chief Loa P. Faletogo and his team who organized this wonderful celebration, as well as Fa'anana Jerome Grey, whose music is enjoyed by Pacific Islanders around the world, for their hard work and dedication to our heritage,” concluded the Congresswoman.
