“These are our future leaders, and it is a pleasure for me to be able to speak to them about what we do here in Congress,” said Amata. “As the Member who represents American Samoa, I am always happy whenever I am able to see one of our own bright young students working to reach their goals, and go the extra mile to see them to fruition,” continued Amata.
The mission of the Junior Statesmen Foundation is to strengthen American democracy, by educating and preparing high school students for life-long involvement and responsible leadership in a democratic society.
In the student-run JSF summer schools and institutes, participants learn statesmanship as they engage in political discourse. Through this, they cultivate leadership skills, challenge one another to think critically, advocate their own opinions, develop respect for opposing views and learn to rise above self-interest to promote the public good.
“I want to thank the Junior Statesmen Foundation for allowing me the opportunity to speak to some of most gifted and promising students from across the nation. The mission they do is critical to furthering the cause of democracy and educating our young people about our system of government,” concluded Amata.
