Amata Supports Congressional Task Force Examining Presidential Security
Washington, D.C. –Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is highly supportive of the new bipartisan Task Force appointed to investigate the attempted assassination of former President Trump and all related security and procedural questions.
The Task Force announced Monday follows bipartisan House passage of H. Res. 1367, passed by a vote of 416-0 on July 24th. The Resolution was sponsored by Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA), who represents Butler County, Pennsylvania, where the shooting occurred, and Pennsylvania firefighter Corey Comperatore died shielding his family.
“The country deserves clear answers, and I strongly support this House effort being a thorough and bipartisan examination of these security issues and future structure,” said Congresswoman Aumua Amata. “In my life, I’ve had the opportunity to meet every President since Richard Nixon. It is a national priority to keep each of them safe so our nation moves forward with confidence, strength, and stability. I’m pleased that the 11 Members of both parties chosen for this investigation have excellent credentials in law enforcement, military service, national intelligence, and oversight experience.”
The Resolution empowers the Task Force to “investigate and fully examine all actions by any (1) federal agency, department, officer, or employee; (2) state or local government, including state and local law enforcement; and (3) private entities or individuals.”
The goals are as follows: To understand what went wrong on the day of the attempted assassination; To ensure accountability; To prevent such an agency failure from ever happening again.
The Task Force will make recommendations for reform to the relevant government agencies and recommend any necessary congressional legislative action to implement the reforms.
