Amata Was at Cambridge American Cemetery for Memorial Day Ceremonies
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata was in London on Memorial Day for a special wreath laying at Cambridge American Cemetery, where many U.S. Service Members who fought in World War II are buried. The tour and ceremony at the Cemetery included a wreath on behalf of the U.S. Congress.
“We brought a wreath from the U.S. Congress to honor our Veterans buried there at the Cambridge American Cemetery,” said Aumua Amata. “The Cemetery was beautifully decorated for Memorial Day with American and British flags, and the ceremonies included a flyover.”
“Seeing several veterans cemeteries overseas in a matter of days really emphasizes the many thousands that have given their lives for the freedom that so much of the world enjoys today,” she concluded.
The Congressional Delegation (CODEL) led by Chairman Mark Takano was focused on U.S. veterans and military, and closed out their travel schedule in London. In addition to the Memorial Day ceremonies, the CODEL visited Royal Hospital Chelsea, and took part in a reception at Wychwood. The U.K. visit was the final stop among five international destinations through the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs (HVAC), on which Aumua Amata serves as Vice Ranking Member.
In each country, Members of Congress honored U.S. Veterans or visited U.S. military personnel, along with discussions regarding services to U.S. veterans abroad, national and allied security efforts, and international cooperation on shared interests. Beginning in Tunisia, they went to Lithuania, Poland, Finland and then the U.K. before returning to the United States.
