Amata Welcomes $160,000 Substance Treatment DOJ Grant for Planning Agency
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is welcoming notice of a grant of $159,948 from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Justice Programs to the American Samoa Criminal Justice Planning Agency. Congress funded the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) for State Prisoners Program and subsequent grants for the year through the Department of Justice Appropriations Act, 2023.
“Congratulations once again to Director Mariana Timu-Faiai and CJPA employees for their work on these important issues and their application efforts for these discretionary funds,” said Congresswoman Amata. “This grant assists those struggling with substance addiction during their time in the justice system.”
The primary goal of the 2023 RSAT Program is to provide federal grant funding assistance to the program and its affiliates at the Tafuna Correctional Facility of the American Samoa Government in providing treatment and counseling services in support of rehabilitation, as well as teaching and training of vocational trades and skills to help inmates transition back into the community productively.
