March 25, 2020

Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata is welcoming a second health grant from recently passed Coronavirus response efforts, with more comprehensive assistance to come as Congress considers a $2 trillion economic and health care response package this week.

The U.S. Health and Human Services Department through HRSA is providing a Coronavirus response grant of $58,550 to the American Samoa Department of Health for coronavirus supplemental funding for health centers.

"The grant process and other assistance from the first two coronavirus response efforts is getting underway, and a massive bill will likely be completed this week," said Aumua Amata. "These are funds to help our health system and preparation in this major effort."

Last week, a $370,000 health grant came through from the initial coronavirus response legislation, that one through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

"I am working to ensure American Samoa is included in these major changes to our laws, so that assistance will come to our economy and people," continued Congresswoman Amata. "I expect to see more news for us in days and weeks ahead from this ongoing legislation."

"Thank you to Executive Director of Community Health Centers Kenneth Kuaea for his work on this important project, and congratulations to Health Department Director Motusa Nua," concluded Amata. "A special thank you to every doctor, nurse, and first responder for your readiness."
