Washington, D.C. – Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed $500,000 in federal funds for a rescue and fire vehicle for the airport serving Manu’a.

“I’m delighted to welcome this federal provision for a dependable rescue and fire vehicle at the airport on Ofu,” said Aumua Amata. “The U.S. Department of Transportation recognized this important need to be able to help save lives and property with the proper equipment. It’s always essential to ensure that all of our islands are served and included in federal resources.”

Specifically, the $500,000 DOT/Federal Aviation Administration grant is designated for the acquisition of the replacement rescue and firefighting vehicle at Ofu, ensuring the airport can operate within the safety regulations.

“Thank you to once again to Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, an experienced leader and a friend to American Samoa,” continued Congresswoman Amata. “Thank you also to all the public servants involved at theFAA and DOT, and especially those here at our airports keeping us safe as we travel.”

“In particular, I appreciate the efforts of Ports Director Taimalelagi Dr. Claire Poumele, for her actions to acquire and implement this grant,” concluded Amata.
