May 31, 2022

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is highlighting a federal funding notification from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the amount of $643,500 for American Samoa Department of Health. This is a discretionary grant for cancer prevention and control programs.

“First of all, thank you to Elizabeth Fano for her efforts on this grant, and the cancer prevention program it helps sustain,” said Aumua Amata. “Cancer prevention and treatment for our people is always among our most important health services.”

Specifically, the grant is through the National Center for Chronic Diseases Prevention and Health Promotion, an office of the CDC, which is an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), under Secretary Xavier Becarra.

“Congratulations to our medical professionals working on cancer prevention and treatment,” concluded Congresswoman Amata. “Thank you to Governor Lemanu Mauga, Lt. Governor Talauega Ale, and Director Motusa Nua as they lead efforts to ensure helpful federal funds like these can be obtained.”
