Amata Welcomes DOI Close Up Program Grant

Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed a $1 million federal grant to the Close Up Foundation to fund the program in the Insular Areas. Congresswoman Amata and the American Samoa congressional office in Washington, D.C., looks forward to welcoming a Close Up students delegation from American Samoa on their trip to the U.S. Capitol in just a few weeks.

"I appreciate the mission of the Close Up program and its lifelong educational benefits for our next generation of leaders," said Aumua Amata. "Thank you to everyone in the islands who works with this excellent program throughout the year, and thank you to the Department of Interior for this support."

Specifically, the grant will support the civic education program in the U.S. Territories and the Freely Associated States, and the notification is signed by Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs Doug Domenech.
