“Thank you to the everyone at the Malaeimi Fa'atamali'i Center and Chairman of the Board Toetasi Tuiteleleapaga for these meaningful efforts,” said Congresswoman Aumua Amata. “Congratulations to the Center and this program serving our youth, and pointing them toward better futures. Thank you for your care for our young people, and to HHS we appreciate the support in our community.”

Legislative authority from Congress for this grant is through the longstanding Runaway and Homeless Youth Act, among others, along with the current annual bills authorizing HHS priorities and appropriating HHS spending.

This discretionary health services grant, titled Empowering Pacific Island Communities, is through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and specifically, the Administration for Children and Families (ACYF) and its Family and Youth Services Bureau.

This federal grant program supports services such as community workshops, educational support, and youth outreach, as well as providing mentorship, health resources, recreation and computer labs.

The Center provides safety and refuge, food, clothing, medical care, and counseling for youth facing crisis circumstances.
