Aumua and the Air Force Academy Outreach to Local Schools
Washington, D.C. –Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata's, local district office will be teaming up with the U.S. Air Force Academy's Admissions office next week to conduct outreach to some of the local high schools and organizations.

The Seals of the five Service Academies
"I am thrilled that the Air Force Academy admissions team will be traveling to American Samoa to talk to our high school students about the process to obtain a fully funded education at the academy, followed by a rewarding career as an officer in the U.S. Air Force," stated Amata.
The goal of the collaboration between the offices, is to clearly articulate to the students, the process of how to properly apply for admission to the Service Academies (except the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, which has a different process), as well as seeking a nomination from Congresswoman Aumua Amata. Each student desiring to apply to the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, must apply to the to the academy for admission as well as seek a nomination from Congresswoman Amata (the Coast Guard Academy does not require a congressional nomination.). Each Member of Congress and U.S. Senator are allocated nomination slots to each of the academies. However, the nominees must also meet the strict academic and extracurricular requirements in order to be offered an appointment.
The five service academies rank among the best colleges in the nation and have produced leaders of character, both military and civilian, for the past several decades. Each year, thousands of students from all across the United States and its territories apply for admission to one or more of the academies but only a select few are chosen due to the extremely high standards the academies place on its student body. The Service Academies are looking for well-rounded students with leadership potential, who are physically fit, mentally tough and possess outstanding character and commitment to serve as officers in the military following graduation.
The Congresswoman's local office has been working closely with high school counselors and teachers since August to get the word out to all students about the nomination / application process and assist them in filling out their applications. The deadline for submitting nomination applications to the Congresswoman's office has been extended to 30 November and the board to select nominees will be held on 12 December. The location will be announced at a later date.
"Receiving an appointment to one of our premier service academies is one of the most coveted honors reserved for our nation's most promising students, and I urge all eligible high school and college students who meet the requirements to apply," stated Amata.
