Aumua Announces $2 Million Grant for Head Start

November 29, 2016

Washington, D.C. – Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, announced that the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) has awarded a grant of $2,143,469 to American Samoa Dept. of Education (ASDOE) in supplemental funding for the American Samoa Head Start Program.

“I am glad that the ACF continues to supply funding for this critical program,” stated Amata. “Early education has always been extremely important and it is crucial that we do all we can to make sure these efforts continue. This important funding will be very helpful in giving our island’s students their literal “head start” in forming a better and brighter future,” continued Amata.

The American Samoa Head Start program promotes the school readiness of young children from low-income families through agencies in their local community. Both Head Start and Early Head Start programs offer a variety of service models, depending on the needs of the local community. Programs may be based in centers, schools, or family child care homes.

“I would like to thank the officials at ACF for providing this funding for our young people who are just beginning their academic endeavors as well as Milaneta Tinitali and her staff at the ASDOE, Early Childhood Division for their continuous hard work for our children,” concluded Amata.
