Aumua Announces $250,000 Grant
Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, announced that the Administration for Children and Families / ACYF - Family and Youth Services Bureau has awarded a grant in the amount of $250,000 to Intersections, Inc.'s, Competitive Personal Responsibility Education Program.
"I am pleased to announce the awarding of this grant for Intersection's program that will help prevent teen pregnancies in American Samoa," said Amata. "Programs like this are important to the future of our young people and I applaud Intersections for the work they do," continued Amata.
Intersections is a 501-C3 non-profit organization that has been incorporated in American Samoa since 2002, and focuses on youth development programs such as, drama based education, substance abuse counseling, and teen pregnancy prevention.
The Competitive Personal Responsibility Education Program will replicate the evidence based Heritage Keepers abstinence education curriculum, approved for medical accuracy by the U.S. DHHS as an effective intervention for preventing teen pregnancies, reducing sexually transmitted infections, and reducing rates of associated sexual risk behaviors.
"I want to thank those at the Administration for Children and Families for their wisdom in awarding this grant, and, the Director of P.I., Loso Iaulualo for securing these important funds for American Samoa," concluded Amata.
