Aumua Announces $83,000 Grant Award for Healthcare in AS

September 19, 2016

Washington, D.C. –Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, announced today, that the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Grant Service Office has issued $83,467 in supplementary discretionary funds to the American Samoa Department of Health (ASDOH) as part of the Pacific Basin Program.

“I am pleased to relay this information to our local government and people. Being relatively small and geographically isolated from any major land mass, funding plays a crucial role in the improvement to our island’s healthcare system,” stated Amata. “There is still much to be done when it comes to healthcare improvement in our islands, but we remain optimistic and ever grateful for every bit of funding we receive.”

These funds are released in addition to HRSA Pacific Basin funds issued earlier this year. The purpose of HRSA funding is to improve access to quality health care and services and strengthen the health workforce. ASDOH will be able to use these discretionary funds as needed to improve our islands Healthcare System.

“I want to thank our local officials including Project Director, Easter Bruce, for their leadership and hard work in obtaining this important funding for our islands. I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress and the Administration to increase funding for local health care resources and improve our overall quality of life.” concluded Amata.
