Aumua Announces Art Competition for 2016
Washington, D.C. –Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, announced that High School students from American Samoa will once again have the opportunity to participate in this year's Malofie Congressional Art Competition- An Artistic Discovery. Last year, the Congresswoman hosted the first competition for High School students from American Samoa.

"I am proud to once again host the Malofie Congressional Art Competition for 2016," said Amata. This wonderful event allows our students the opportunity to display their talent on the national level," said Amata. "I look forward to seeing this year's entries and also look forward to sharing their talent with the nation," continued Amata.
This year celebrates the 34th Annual Malofie Congressional Art Competition - An Artistic Discovery. The nationwide art competition, which is voluntarily sponsored by Members of Congress, allows creative high school students to showcase their talents in Washington, D.C. inside the U.S. Capitol Building. The first place winner in each competition will have their winning entry displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year, and are also eligible for scholarship opportunities from the Savannah College of Arts and Design (SCAD). The winning artist is invited to fly to Washington, D.C. for a national reception honoring the winners from each congressional district across the nation.
All entries must be original in concept, design and execution. Art works entered in the contest may be up to 28 inches by 28 inches (including the frame) and may be up to 4 inches in depth. The following mediums are authorized:
Paintings - including oil, acrylics, and watercolor
Drawings - including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers
Collage
Prints - including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints
Mixed Media
Computer Generated Art
Photography
All American Samoan High Schools have been invited to participate. Each High School will hold an internal competition and then submit their Top 5 entries for the district competition to be held in April. More information regarding the exact date, time and location of the district competition will be announced shortly.
Each high school is highly encouraged to conduct their internal competition in time to submit their top five to the final competition to be held during the week of 11-15 April 2016.
