As one of the newest chapter’s, the ASCC Lions Club has stated that its mission is “to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote community understanding.” To help get the new chapter off the ground and running are, ASCC faculty Mr. Seiuli and Mr. Tero Talamoa who serve as co-advisors, as well as local Lions Club President Ms. Tafa Tua-Tupuola and Zone Chair Mr. Chris King.

Following the opening remarks from President Tafa Tua-Tupuola, the audience listened to the Key Note Speaker, American Samoa Attorney General Talauega Eleasalo V. Ale, who spoke of service to the community.

The Lions Club’s mission includes, creating and fostering a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world; promoting the principles of good government and good citizenship; taking an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community; uniting the clubs in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding; providing a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; and encouraging service-minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward, and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavors.

“I want to thank President Tafa Tua-Tupuola and the other members for inviting me to be here today, and I want to encourage our young people to get involved and join the club. The Lions Club not only assists communities, but also molds future leaders, and to see these young people here, gives me great optimism for our island’s future,” concluded Amata.
