Washington, D.C. –Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, joined her colleagues on the House floor Tuesday evening to salute resigning Speaker of the House, John Boehner. Friday marks the final day of Mr. Boehner's Speakership and it is widely expected that Paul Ryan of Wisconsin will succeed him.

During her statement, Amata touched on some of the Speaker's major achievements during his 25 years in Congress, but focused more on the kind of man the Speaker is. "While we all know of the many achievements that this man of the people has accomplished during his illustrious career, and recognize his unquestionable dedication to our nation, many do not realize just how kind, modest and caring he truly is as a person. Someone who always seems to put others before himself," said Amata.

The Congresswoman also spoke on a recent encounter that she had with the Speaker that she felt best illustrates just how genuine he truly is. "During the recent GOP retreat, I was able to spend a few minutes with the Speaker, or should I say my granddaughter Ella did. I had brought Ella, who is only two years old, with me to the retreat, so that I could spend some time with her during the breaks in between activities. Well, let me tell you that Ella was mesmerized by the Speaker, and I am pretty sure he felt the same. They had a conversation that only they two seemed to understand and Ella was just fascinated with the silly man who was so kindly entertaining her. This short but memorable interaction is one that I know Ella will be proud to recount when she is older," stated Amata during her speech on the House floor.

In closing, the Congresswoman asked her colleagues to join her in recognizing the Speaker. "Mr. Speaker, I ask that the House rise and join me in saluting the 53rd Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, John Boehner and also thank him for his unwavering dedication and outstanding service to our grateful nation," concluded Amata.
