Aumua Updated by Secretary of U.S. Navy

Washington, D.C. –Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, attended a luncheon briefing that was hosted by the U.S. Navy League on Capitol Hill. The topic of the luncheon was the status of current worldwide United States Naval operations and the Navy's role in our national security.

"It is vital that we as Members of Congress are regularly briefed on the operations of our military in regards to our national security. We rely on these briefings to formulate sound policies that will help us better protect our nation," stated Amata.

The briefing featured leaders from the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps including, the Secretary of the U.S. Navy, Ray Mabus, Commandant of the Marine Corps General Robert B. Neller, and the Chief of Naval Operations Admiral John M. Richardson. Each speaker touched on different aspects of U.S. Naval operations and policy including expanding our fleet, personnel training, tactical readiness.

"I want to thank the U.S. Navy League hosting this event as well as Secretary Mabus, Commandant Neller, and Admiral Richardson for taking time from their busy schedules to provide us with this briefing," said Amata. "Due to the geographical location of American Samoa, it is crucial that we have a Navy that is able to provide a robust presence in the Pacific and around the world," concluded Amata.
