Uifa’atali Welcomes Federal Grant for Maternal and Child Health Services

Washington, D.C. –Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata welcomes the awarding of a federal grant of $105,034 from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for maternal and child health services in American Samoa. The grant, awarded by HHS’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), will go to the American Samoa Department of Public Health for services from 2022 to 2024.

“We all know that providing early, quality, and consistent care to mothers and children are important pillars of public health,” Aumua Amata said. “The fact of the matter is that we need to ensure that we improve on these services so that the future generations, and the women who bring them into this world, prosper.”

“I congratulate Governor Lemanu, Lt. Governor Talauega, ASDOH Director Motusa Tuileama Nua, and the hard-working team at ASDOH for their efforts. I also specifically congratulate Dr. Anaise Uso and her team for their work on this grant. I also thank HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra and HRSA Administrator Carole Johnson for their support for the territory.”
