Washington, D.C. – Monday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata and the House Veterans Affairs Committee conducted a hearing to examine the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) efforts to reduce suicide among the Veteran population. Prior to the hearing, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and GOP Conference Chair Liz Cheney joined Congresswoman Amata, Chairman Mark Takano, Ranking Member Dr. Phil Roe and other leaders of the Committee to raise awareness at a Capitol press conference with Veterans.

Washington, D.C. – Friday, Congresswoman Aumua AmataAmata is delighted to congratulate two excellent students from American Samoa upon their acceptance to the nation's prestigious service academies. Congresswoman Amata was notified that Ben So'otui Schuster has been offered a fully qualified appointment by the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado, and that Aitulagi Alofa has been offered a fully qualified appointment by the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

Washington, D.C. – Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata is delighted once again to announce the winners of the Malofie Congressional Art Competition. This year's first-place contestant has the distinction of also being a previous winner. Congratulations to Katie Jewel Godinet from Samoana High School upon her first-place finish. She is the daughter of Katie Godinet of Pago Pago.
The second-place winner is MJ Matulino, son of Maeli and Lusia Maselino of Aua. Third-place honors were earned by Anthony Feala.

Washington, DC – Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata is welcoming a combined $2 million in federal funds available to American Samoa for security purposes in three different preparedness grants through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata highlighted passage of the Plaskett-Radewagen Amendment during the reauthorization effort of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Congresswoman Amata is the lead Republican cosponsor of this bipartisan Amendment introduced by Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett (D-USVI) with the unified backing of all five island Territory Members of Congress, to change the funding formulas of two programs.
