Washington, D.C. – Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata leant her support as an original cosponsor to the Boosting Rates of American Veteran Employment (BRAVE) Act, a bill introduced by her colleague on the House Veterans Affairs Economic Opportunity Subcommittee, Rep. Kathleen Rice (D-NY).

Washington, D.C. – Monday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata introduced a bill that would eliminate the 21-day hold policy by banks regarding off island checks. The proposed legislation will remedy the 21-day delay and put American Samoa on-par with the 6-day schedule of availability of funds that are already required of banks in all states and other U.S. territories.

Fagatogo – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata hosted a town-hall meeting in the Fale Fono Guest House which was near capacity.

Following a quick opening statement by the Congresswoman, Amata answered questions from the large crowd that had gathered for the event. From veterans to fishery management to citizenship status, the range of questions ran the gambit of issues that concern the people of American Samoa.

Pago Pago – Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata issued a statement regarding the introduction by Chairman Don Young (AK-At Large) of the Strengthening Fishing Communities and Increasing Flexibility in Fisheries Management Act, a bill that would amend the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act. “I am pleased to have Representatives Bradley Byrne and Amata Coleman Radewagen as original cosponsors on the bill. I look forward to working with any Member of the House that is interested in reauthorizing the Magnuson-Stevens Act,” stated Chairman Young.

Washington, DC- Congresswoman Aumua Amata participated in two Joint Congressional Veterans Committee hearings this week. Both hearings were dedicated to the legislative agendas of two important veteran advocacy organizations for the 114th Congress. The first hearing focused on the agenda presented by Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the second on the priorities of the American Legion.

Washington, DC- Tuesday,Congresswoman Aumua Amata attended the annual Interagency Group on Insular Affairs (IGIA) Senior Plenary Session where she thanked Interior Secretary Sally Jewell for her assistance during the shipping slowdown
