Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is welcoming official notice of $2 million in federal funding for local mental health and substance abuse behavioral services for prevention and treatment efforts.  This is a new award, resulting from the local application efforts of Fiso Talalupelele and the American Samoa Department of Health, granted under the scope of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as directed by Congress in authorizing and appropriating health funds.

Solomon Islands – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata with Rep. Neal Dunn (R-FL) of the US House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party traveled to Solomon Islands, meeting with Solomon officials and community leaders earlier this week. In visiting Guadalcanal, Congresswoman Amata and Congressman Dunn laid wreaths at the American War Memorial to honor those who fought to secure freedom in the 20th century, as growing CCP aggression threatens to undermine peace in the 21st century.

Canberra, Australia – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is taking part in a Congressional Delegation to Australia led by Chairman Mike Gallagher of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, in which the Members of Congress participated in the Australian American Leadership Dialogue (AALD), and bolstered the AUKUS alliance, a security pact among Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States that is key to Pacific security and stability.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata released the following statement regarding the tragic wildfires in Maui that devastated Lahaina: “Today, our hearts go out to the Lahaina wharf district in Maui which suffered a catastrophic loss of life and property. First and foremost, our prayers are with these devastated families learning of a lost loved one, and then all those who will face long recovery efforts. “The Lahaina wharf district is a national treasure, and millions from across the USA and all over the world come to visit the historic whaling town and beautiful beaches.

Washington, D.C. – House Veterans’ Affairs Committee Vice Chairman Uifa’atali Amata is welcoming Thursday’s VA announcement that Veterans and survivors who apply (or submit their intent to file) for PACT Act benefits by 11:59PM Eastern Time on this Monday, August 14, 2023, will be eligible to have their benefits backdated to August 10, 2022 – the day that President Biden signed the PACT Act into law. This is an extension from the past original deadline of August 9, 2023.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is welcoming notice of several grants from the Office of Insular Affairs’ Maintenance Assistance Program (MAP).

In a letter received Tuesday from Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs Carmen G. Cantor to Governor Lemanu P.S. Mauga and Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata, the OIA announced just over $750,000 ($750,280) in three MAP grants.
