Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Uifaatali Amata announced she is an original cosponsor of bipartisan legislation sponsored by Rep. Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan of CNMI that would allow unlimited federal funding for the Medicaid program in the U.S. territories, including American Samoa and the Marianas.

Washington, D.C. – Tuesday, Congresswoman Uifaatali Amata is highlighting the return of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and the program's capacity to help small businesses weather economic concerns from COVID-19. PPP was the larger of two Small Business Administration (SBA) programs, along with EIDL, that provided low interest loans, forgivable loans, or emergency advances. Congress has directed the SBA to put emphasis on smaller businesses and minority-owned businesses, and broadened terms that make the loans forgivable.

Washington, D.C. – Monday, Congresswoman Uifaatali Amata is hailing the signing into law of a bipartisan effort, which included U.S. Senators Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and John Boozman, R-Ark., and U.S. Representatives Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., Colin Allred, D-Texas, and Amata Coleman Radewagen, R-American Samoa. Together, they announced that their bipartisan legislation to let Department of Veterans' Affairs (VA) work study students work in congressional offices was included in the veterans legislative package signed into law on January 5.

"In proceedings led by Vice President Pence, the United States has certified the official results of the U.S. national election. The election is over, along with any meaningful election challenges. The transition to President-elect Biden will take place on schedule January 20th. Vice President Pence fulfilled his constitutional duty, and is a leader I respect.

Washington, D.C. – Tuesday, Congresswoman Uifaatali Amata welcomed President Trump's signing into law of the bipartisan Young Fishermen's Development Act (H.R. 1240), which she co-led as an original cosponsor in a group of four, joining its author, Dean of the House, Alaska Congressman Don Young, Congressman Jared Golden (D-Maine) and Congressman Seth Moulton (D-Massachusetts). A Senate companion effort was led by Senator Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska). Each of these lawmakers has a strong fishing tradition in their Districts.

Washington, D.C. – Sunday, Congresswoman High Chief Uifaatali was officially sworn in to serve the people of American Samoa for a fourth term in Congress as the new 117th Congress convened.

"At the start of each Congress, each Member swears an oath to the U.S. Constitution," said Amata. "It's a humbling moment that reminds us of our responsibility to the people we represent. I'm always proud to represent American Samoa in Washington."
