Washington, D.C. – Tuesday, Congresswoman Uifaatali Amata welcomed President Trump's signing into law of the bipartisan Young Fishermen's Development Act (H.R. 1240), which she co-led as an original cosponsor in a group of four, joining its author, Dean of the House, Alaska Congressman Don Young, Congressman Jared Golden (D-Maine) and Congressman Seth Moulton (D-Massachusetts). A Senate companion effort was led by Senator Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska). Each of these lawmakers has a strong fishing tradition in their Districts.

Washington, D.C. – Sunday, Congresswoman High Chief Uifaatali was officially sworn in to serve the people of American Samoa for a fourth term in Congress as the new 117th Congress convened.

"At the start of each Congress, each Member swears an oath to the U.S. Constitution," said Amata. "It's a humbling moment that reminds us of our responsibility to the people we represent. I'm always proud to represent American Samoa in Washington."

Washington, D.C. – Sunday, Congresswoman Uifaatali Amata said she was given the vaccine Saturday, and she encourages people to take the vaccine as it becomes available.

"It was not difficult and I have not felt sick," Amata said. "I do think it's the right thing for our people to do, so we can begin a return to more normal times."

Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Uifaatali Amata welcomed House passage of S. 2216, supporting family members who care for Veterans. Congresswoman Amata is an original cosponsor of the same provisions in a related House bill.

The House of Representatives unanimously passed the Senate version of the VA caregiver support bill, entitled the TEAM Veterans Caregiver Act. Congresswoman Amata supported the House version, also titled the TEAM Veterans Caregiver Act, H.R. 6571, from day one of its introduction early this year.

Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Uifaatali Amata hailed passage by the U.S. House of Representatives of a bipartisan fishing bill. She is an original cosponsor of the bill promoting the development of the next generation of commercial fishermen with new federal grant support. Earlier this year, Amata also voted for the Young Fishermen's Development Act, H.R. 1240, in the Natural Resources Committee, where it passed by unanimous consent.
