Washington, D.C. – Friday, Congresswoman Uifa'atali Amata highlighted the advancement of legislation that would lead to road improvements for American Samoa as the House passed H.R. 3684, the INVEST in America Act. This Act authorizes $343 billion for roads, bridges and safety measures, $109 billion for transit, $95 billion for passenger and freight rail, $117 billion for drinking water infrastructure resources and roughly $51 billion for wastewater infrastructure.
Appropriations Committee Community Project Funding Requests
Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Uifa'atali Amata is highlighting a proposed increase in Highway funding for American Samoa that would implement a yearly boost in federal road-related funding of more than $6.8 million, taking it from the current $4.2 million to over $11 million. This would represent more than a 200 percent increase over the previous formula for the territories.
Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Uifa'atali Amata welcomed official notice of a Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant for the airport at Fitiuta, Ta'u, designated to the runway lighting project.
The grant totaling $338,888 includes $33,888 from congressional appropriations for COVID-19 relief, with $305,000 in non-discretionary DOT/FAA grant funds to American Samoa Government for the project.

The $67,148 Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness (HMEP) grant is directed to American Samoa Department of Homeland Security from the DOT's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).
Washington, D.C. – Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata is welcoming federal funds for an essential airport runway rehabilitation project in Ofu. Under the recent CARES Act, the federal share of this Department of Transportation and Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant is increased to 100 percent. That CARES Act replacement of the Territory's normal share of $817,374 brings the federal AIP aid up to $8,173,747.
